The basic academic qualification for all legal practitioners in SAis the LLB degree. It is a four-year undergraduate degree, so one can complete the degree within four years of leaving school. However, at some universities, it is possible to combine this degree with another, such as a BA, B SocSci, B Com or B Sc. In such a case, and provided that one includes sufficient law courses in the curriculum for the other degree, one will spend a minimum of five years at university, but will graduate with two degrees, eg BA LLB. If one already has a degree, but has no courses (or an insufficient number), the LLB degree will take three years.
